Pricing and Payment Policies

Pay at the tour or in advance. Cash is great. Credit card payments are accepted only in advance, and are refundable only by PayPal or by check within 30 days.

Pre-payment is not necessary for a reservation. Just contact us and let us know how to reach you.

Our prices are sliding scale:

If you earn very little
→ $10

If you're finally living comfortably
→ $15 plus tip, as deserved

If you live a settled lifestyle
→ $20 plus tip

If donating to progressive educational purposes makes you feel good
→ $25 plus tip

If you're proud to be good at making money
→ $40 plus large tip, whether deserved or not!

The Waterfront Short-tour is free (tips encouraged).
Custom tours are priced depending on what you want.

Sometimes we use public transit during the tour. If the tour description says we use transit, bring a Muni pass or $1.50 ($50¢ senior and child fare)

There is an additional $20 fee to cover materials for the Hands-on Art Adventure.

If we decide to exchange photos on your tour, tour price includes access to a special Thinkwalks Web page for sharing pictures with the new friends you make on the tour!

The idea behind our sliding scale:

We don't like turning people away for lack of funds, though sometimes we have to turn people away for scheduling reasons.

As you'll see on your tour, your support sustains our unusual programs connecting people with the urban and natural context. Our tours are presented as community activism and education. We provide tours regardless of your financial resources. And we always aim to provide a living wage for our guides.

We encourage haggling and negotiation if you have the stomach for it.

Ideally, we'd spend an hour or more talking with each of you about priorities in life, financial resources, generosity, and so on, the way Movement for a New Society used to determine pricing for their workshops, way back in the idealism age. But that approach takes a lot of patience—and patience doesn't grow on trees (unlike impatiens, as you'll see on your tour).

We provide these think walks for reasons that have little to do with money, and of course you'll appreciate our tours for more than their low cost.

Tipping

At Thinkwalks, we pride ourselves on paying our guides half-decently. In addition to their regular pay, guides always pocket your entire tip. Please feel free to give a small tip to show your appreciation. A large tip will show that your view of the world has been forever changed by the tour, or that you disapprove of your guide's wardrobe.

Refunds

As this pricing structure is really a donation to our efforts, any refunds are always freely and fully given as requested. We do appreciate details as to why you are requesting the refund so we can improve our services in every way possible.

We give refunds in cash in person when possible, if payment was in cash. All other refunds will be made only to your PayPal account immediately, or by check within 30 days, if you provide a mailing address.
