Outside the Tourist Zones
an 8-hour exploration with rest & exploration time

We use public buses and our feet to get under the skin of half a dozen neighborhoods and microclimates. With cool participatory activities, presentations, and conversations with locals, you'll become the world's leading expert on local ecology and social... [more].

Our BEST tour!
Shaping San Francisco
hills, water & why SF is here

How did the city come to be here, of all places, on all these hills? And surrounded by salt water! The answer: politics and ground water. Take a walk along hidden fresh water rivers, hear waterfalls (cascading beneath ornate sewer covers), and discover lost wells within the city. Learn the power of drips... [more].

Hands-on Art Adventure
be a kid or bring a kid

Join cutting-edge artists, kids, sewer designers, new lovers, and other creative sorts at this monthly make-it-happening. We'll take rubbings and pressings of textured... [more].

Center City Mural Tour
SF's least-explored best murals

Try to picture San Francisco with no cars. Okay, now try to imagine a culture entirely based on the contributions of women. Okay, now a view of the world from the perspective of a toddler. Can you picture it? Imagine painting it! This tour celebrates a mix of art, community effort, social radicalism... [more].

Straight Tour
no, just kidding

This is San Francisco, and the "Gay Community" is very strong (though tough to define), we figured maybe we should set the balance straight, so to speak, by running a Straight Tour, however... It's always a little bit suspicious when a majority tries to claim rights to the kind of special-focus programs that minorities struggle to inject into mainstream awareness...[more].

Golden Gate Park
time travel by bike

This ambitious garden the size of New York's Central Park was built on unforgiving windswept sand, partly as a refuge from city stress and partly to boost land developer profits. It has become a showcase for exotic and native species with lush woods, flowerbeds, recreation sites and jungles. The park was home to the first electric light... [more].

Waterfront Short-tour

Bay ecology & introduction to Thinkwalks

Want a brief taste of Thinkwalks? Come on a one hour walk along the heart of the waterfront. Using our special patented high-speed-mind-meld, we cover every aspect of the waterfront, from the ecology and political history of the Bay to strategies for swimming from Alcatraz even if... [more].

Pear-picking Picnic
East-Bay bike ride
excursion

Once a year, when pear harvest season arrives, we run a BART-bike tour to Moraga to pick pears ripe off the public trees. It's usually in August. We'll go into the land of heat and boutique chain stores on a Saturday, midday, and return to chilly fogtown a little after dark. The ride is only five miles each way, almost entirely flat... [more].

Radical Welcome

We are developing a sort of Radical Welcome Wagon program which will allow you to quickly become familiar with San Francisco's excellent resources and communities upon your arrival (or immediately after recognition of your mid-life crisis). Stay tuned for details.
